Flashback Friday - The Makings Of A Christmas Elf!

dec11.3

This weeks flashback Friday is only taking us back one whole year. Back to December 2008... when I only had to worry about one child, when hubby and I would have a night to ourselves every week when Sophia slept over at Grandma an Grandpas house. I was due with Charlotte (we didn't know she was a Charlotte then...I love surprises) on December 28th and I had a couple weeks of vacation saved up so I stopped working on December 6th, which meant I had a lot of free time :) For all my American friends... here in Canada you get a full year of maternity leave when you have a child so often women won't work right up until the birth of their child. Anyhoo since I had a lot of free time and Sophia stopped going to daycare we needed to come up with some crafts to pass the time.

We ended up making cute button wreath ornaments for the Christmas tree and for present toppers. they turned out well and friends and family loved them. I was a little leary of letting a two year old play with wire and small buttons...but she proved up to the task. All you do to make these cute wreaths are to string buttons on some wire... connect to make a circle and tie some ribbon on. Sophia did a great job and I was very proud of her dexterous skills. We were going to make some more this year but I missplaced all my buttons and the nice buttons at the craft stores are way too expensive... so we painted wooden ornaments instead.

Buttons are expensive, aren't they!? I usually try to find big stashes of them at antique stores and such! You usually get a cool variety.

A cute idea with the button wreath ornaments!

Great flashback...man you are lucky!! I had to save up and use most all my time when I had Emily. I took almost four months off but that is because I had the time. Can I move to Canada?!

Wow. The days of only one child. I miss those days. Not only for the one on one time that I had with Eleanore, but also because I got so much more sleep!!!

So cute that you and her made ornaments together. I don't have the patience to try doing crafts like that with Elie. And she doesn't have the concentration.

Love the pictures, too.

I save all my buttons from new clothes that I buy and occasionally I'll splurge on a huge jar of vintage ones at the thrift store or on Etsy, what a great use for them though, I hadn't thought of making ornament wreaths!

What a sweet remembrance! Someday when she's older you can look back on that with such fond memory. I love those wreaths! Now I have an idea for a Christmas craft for next year :)

Aw, so sweet! Amazing that one year ago, you didn't have a little Charlotte in your life just yet... Now I bet its hard to imagine life without her!

Love those little wreaths!

Very cute - I've never thought of making wreaths with buttons before. Your daughter(s) are very adorable! :) I like your header pictures.
