Flashback Friday - S is for snake.

Flashback Friday 11/6/09

S is for snake... that my father killed. First off, if you know my dad.. you know that he is like me and tends to panic a little under emergency situations. This picture was taken sometime around the 7 or 8 year old mark. We lived in a old stone house on the edge of the city that my parents purchased when my brother was born (he was born at 24 wks gestation... and blessed us for 1.5yrs...but that is another post). They didn't want to be in the suburbs where there were tons of kids and loads of germs that would be killer for his tiny sensitive immune system. Anyhoo.. we lived in a old house with a dirt basement. While my dad was in the basement one day he spotted a milk snake. We didn't know at the time that milk snakes were harmless, so when my dad spotted it in the basement he freaked out. Grabbed the ice pick and strategically placed himself so that he could cut the head off. It wasn't a clean cut, but it did do the trick. I remember the adrenalin pumping through my body when I found out a SNAKE was in our house.. WOW. My dad and I thought that it would be hilarious if we took a picture of me holding the snake to show my mum and to send to my grandmother (a proper old British lady)...I guess it was pretty exciting and funny to an 7/8 year old... my mum just thought it was gross with a touch of cuteness. Anyhoo, this is the most dangerous reptile I have ever encountered here in the Great White North... and that's ok with me!

Head over to Christoper & Tia for more flashback Fridays.

That is a FANTASTIC story (ok the part about your brother made me sad, but I do hope that you'll share it with us someday?). And a wonderful picture!! A snake in the house... that insane. I remember the day before my birthday this year, when there was a rattlesnake in our side yard. So exciting.

Yikes! I'm like your dad, I assume the worst of all snakes. lol
This story was great, I loooove this pic. my heart sank when you mentioned your baby brother... :(
I hope you would like to share that story as well, although I'm sure it's tough to tell.

I LOVE your facial expression!

We've always had black snakes around, but never in our house before. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be going down to the basement for a while after that.

I totally love the look on your face! Had it been me at that age I think I would have passed out at the thought of holding the snake, even if it was dead. My daughter is obsessed with snakes though...and the only one we've found in our yard so far, she wanted to see even after it was beheaded.
